Observations of Nature

Digital prints on pine wood box

2019

ObservationsOfNature-2.jpg

Observations of Nature was created as part of the 2019 NSCAD Kejimkujik Show and emerged from a week-long independent study course held within Kejimkujik National Park.

The work responds to colloquial conversations about the differing perceptions of nature, particularly how urban populations experience being "in" or "outside" of it. By positioning the participant as the observed rather than the observer in this reciprocal relationship, the piece invites reflection on the human-centered lens through which we often view the natural world. Its imagery draws on themes of mimicry and immersion, echoing the visual patterns and rhythms found in natural landscapes.
